The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, officially ushered in a new set of executives for the 2025/2026 academic session today, Thursday 25th July, 2025 during a colourful inauguration ceremony held at Kaka Hall, Main Campus of the institution.
The well-attended event marked a new beginning in student leadership as Comrade Kuforiji Gilbert Agbolade and his team took the oath of office amidst cheers, applause and high expectations from fellow students, staff and management of the institution.
The swearing-in, which was conducted by the Acting Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mrs. Akimat Ogunneye, came after the formal disengagement of the outgoing SUG executive. The solemn but celebratory occasion was witnessed by key members of the Polytechnic community, including the Rector, Engr. Dr. Mobolaji Onasanya, the Deputy Rector, Dr S.T. Akindele, the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr K.O. Ogunbote, the Acting Bursar, Mr Ibikunle Idowu, the Acting Director of Students Affairs, Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments, members of staff, and a large number of students.
In his keynote address, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Mobolaji Onasanya, congratulated the newly inaugurated SUG leaders and admonished them to embrace the values of integrity, humility and selfless service throughout their tenure. “You have been chosen to serve, not to be served. As you wear the badge of leadership, remember that your duty is first to the students who elected you. Be good leaders, good ambassadors of the institution, and always advocate for the interests of the students,” he said.
Dr. Onasanya further emphasised the importance of teamwork and advised the new executives to maintain a cordial working relationship with the office of the Director of Students Affairs to ensure the smooth administration of union affairs. He urged them not to allow the power and influence of their positions overwhelm them, reminding them to lead with sincerity, humility and accountability.
“Your leadership must be transparent and student-focused. Let your administration be marked by fairness, open communication, and a genuine desire to serve,” he added.
The newly sworn-in SUG President, Comrade Kuforiji Gilbert Agbolade, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to the entire student body for the trust reposed in him and his team. He pledged to uphold the principles of good governance, ensure inclusivity, and pursue initiatives that will promote academic excellence, student welfare, and institutional progress.
“I consider this not just an opportunity, but a call to serve. Together with my fellow executives, we shall listen to the voice of the students and work assiduously to address their concerns. We promise to remain accountable and transparent in all our dealings,” Comrade Kuforiji affirmed.
The highlight of the event was the formal swearing-in, which was seamlessly conducted by Mrs Akimat Ogunneye, the Acting Registrar, who administered the oath of office to each of the incoming SUG officers. The process was guided by the Students’ Union Constitution and institutional protocol.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr. S.T. Akindele, the Deputy Rector, appreciated all dignitaries and students present at the ceremony. He commended the outgoing executives for their service and expressed hope that the incoming administration would build on their legacies while charting new paths to greatness. “Leadership is a continuous journey. What you do today will be the foundation upon which others will build tomorrow,” he noted.
The atmosphere at Kaka Hall was filled with a sense of purpose and optimism, as students expressed hope in the new administration’s ability to bridge the gap between the student body and management, and foster a culture of dialogue, innovation, and unity.
The swearing-in ceremony was not just a formality, but a reaffirmation of the Polytechnic’s commitment to democratic values, student development, and institutional growth. The 2025/2026 SUG executives now carry the responsibility of translating their mandate into meaningful action, with the entire polytechnic community watching keenly and expectantly.
