Governor Dapo Abiodun today announced that the Ogun State Gateway International Airport will be officially licensed and approved for commercial operations this week. According to the Governor, this is the first approval of its kind in Nigeria, with officials of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) describing the facility as a benchmark for what airports should be in the country.

Providing further updates, Governor Abiodun revealed that a major international company has agreed to commence two weekly cargo flights from London to the Gateway International Airport. He also disclosed that the facility will serve as the designated alternate airport to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, enhancing its strategic importance for both domestic and international travel.

The Governor added that passenger flights will also begin operations soon, with initial direct routes to Abuja and Port Harcourt. He affirmed that this landmark development will place Ogun State firmly on the global map, creating fresh opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism.

With state-of-the-art infrastructure, international connectivity, and strategic positioning, the Gateway International Airport is set to redefine air travel standards in Nigeria.
