Ogun 2027: Be Responsible, Ethical In Political Engagement, Ogunnaike Urges Youths

Hon. Dennis Ogunnaike, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Technology Innovation, has called on Ogun State youths to resist being used by politicians for selfish interests. He advised them to exercise restraint on social media, avoiding false information and smear campaigns.

Ogunnaike made this appeal at the 3rd Legislative Convergence of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, held in Abeokuta. Speaking on "Building a Responsible Generation: How Parental Guidance Shapes Youth Involvement in Politics," he emphasized personal responsibility, urging young people to embrace ethical politics and shun violence.

"Politics isn't inherently dirty; it's the conduct of those who engage in it that taints its image," Ogunnaike said. He cautioned youths against using political opportunities for negative purposes and urged politicians to take responsibility for their actions.

He affirmed that Ogun State's administration, under Prince Dapo Abiodun, is youth-friendly and responsive, welcoming constructive criticism. Ogunnaike called for meaningful engagement and collective action to drive development, rather than wasting time on needless arguments.

"Be ethical, considerate, responsible, and ready to take responsibility for your actions. Nothing goes for nothing; everything you do today will come back to you somehow," he said.

As 2027 approaches, Ogunnaike urged youths to recognize their power as the majority voting bloc. He encouraged them to register for PVCs and be discerning in their choice of candidates.

"Responsible and professional individuals must get involved in politics to clean up the mess and achieve economic growth and development," he said.

Rt Hon. Famoyinbo Oluwasegun, National Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, corroborated that youths are agents of change, urging them to be reasonable and responsible. Oniyitan Akinbode, Ogun State chairman, commended the government for listening to youth demands.

The event featured induction of Honorables and investiture of Barrister Geseire Temile as matron of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria in Ogun.
