Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation Partners UCH Ibadan for 3-Day Free Eye Care Outreach in Erunwon, Ijebu-Ode

 


The Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation, in collaboration with the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has successfully launched a three-day Free Eye Medical Outreach in Erunwon, Ijebu-Ode, scheduled to run from November 25th to 27th, 2025, beginning daily at 8:00 a.m.

The outreach, themed “Your Vision, Our Mission,” is part of the foundation’s enduring commitment to public health, Community welfare, and the reduction of preventable blindness and vision impairment among underserved populations.

The programme  took place at the Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation Centre, Ijebu-Ode, located near the Anglican Church of Epiphany, with support from MISA Limited. Residents were encouraged to register through an online platform using a provided link and QR code.

Eventually, the Day arrives with a different set of people from diverse demographic status of both male, female, young and older people, civil servants, artisan, retirees, etc participants thronging the venue from day one and doing the registration needful for 2 weeks running.

Subsequently, the 3 days marked for stated treatment, was eventful with those that obtained diagnosis for different types of eyes ailments and subsequently received eyes glasses, surgery and further referral where applicable. 

Objectives of the Outreach: The key objectives of the programme include: Delivery of free comprehensive eye screenings, Provision of professional eye consultations, Cataract surgeries for qualified patients, Eye health education and preventive care awareness, General medical support for underserved community members

These objectives align with Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation’s broader mission of fostering a peaceful and prosperous nation driven by knowledge, enterprise, conflict resolution, and social harmony.

The 2025 outreach also marks Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation’s 33 years of consistent service and Community's impact since its establishment in 1993.

Services Rendered to the Community during the three-day exercise, beneficiaries are receiving: Free eye examinations and vision screenings, Diagnosis and treatment guidance for cataracts, glaucoma, and other common eye conditions, Prescription glasses for qualified patients, Medications, including eye drops and related treatments, Eye health education on preventive care and early detection, For patients requiring advanced treatment or surgery beyond the outreach capacity, strategic referrals are being made to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, to ensure proper follow-up and continuity of care.

Voices from the Outreach: Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, the CEO of the Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation, Mrs. Moniunade Iluyomade, stated: “The Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation, founded in 1933 and rooted in community development, conflict resolution, and entrepreneurship, is committed to the wellbeing of the people we serve. Also speaking at the outreach, Mrs. Abiola Agatha, Deputy Director of Nursing, UCH Ibadan, emphasized the importance of early intervention: “At UCH Ibadan, our work extends beyond the hospital walls. This outreach gives us the opportunity to reach people who might never have access to proper eye care. Early detection can prevent lifelong vision problems, and we are proud to collaborate with the Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation to make this possible. Our team of nurses, ophthalmologists, and volunteers is here to provide excellent care over these three days. Together, we can help people see better and live better.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Victoria Adedayo Modupe, expressed heartfelt gratitude after receiving free treatment and prescription glasses: “I am so grateful for this outreach. I’ve been struggling to see clearly for a long time but couldn’t afford an eye test or medication. Today, I received a proper eye examination and even glasses — all for free. This has brought immense relief and joy to me and my family. I sincerely thank the Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation and the UCH medical team for thinking of people like us. May God bless everyone involved.”

Target Beneficiaries and Expected Impact
The outreach is designed to directly benefit: Local residents of Erunwon and surrounding Communities, Elderly persons living with vision challenges, Low-income households lacking access to medical services, Children, Youths, and Adults in need of preventive eye care

The programme is also expected to: Significantly reduce preventable blindness, Improve early detection of eye diseases, Raise awareness on common eye conditions, Enhance the overall quality of life of participants, etc.

Looking Ahead: Beyond being a medical intervention, the Free Eye Medical Outreach stands as a lifeline for the Erunwon Community and its environs. It further reinforces the Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian development, public health advancement, and social responsibility across Nigeria.

Residents are encouraged to continue taking advantage of this opportunity and similar future interventions, as the foundation reiterates its guiding belief:  “Everyone deserves the gift of sight.”
