Jaginrin: We Will Follow Guidelines for Emergence of New Candidate — Says Olori Ebi
The Family Head (Olori Ebi) of the Oloja Ejinrin descendants, Chief Adediran Taiwo Fetuga, has assured both family members and the public that due process will be strictly followed in selecting a new candidate for the vacant position of Jaginrin Chieftaincy title.
He made this declaration during the family meeting of the Oloja Ejinrin Anukan Johun Ekun, held on Tuesday in Ijebu-Ode.
Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, the Olori Ebi recalled that a candidate had earlier been selected for the Jaginrin chieftaincy title. However, another contender had petitioned the palace, challenging the selection process.
Following the petition, the Afin invited the family and directed them to adhere strictly to the established guidelines for selecting a new Jaginrin.
“After our meeting at Awujale palace, the earlier committee set up to oversee the process was dissolved with the full support of the entire family. We have now resolved to follow the guidelines as instructed by the palace, which stipulate a rotational process among the seven family units entitled to the post.
"The next family in line, the Otuboyejo family has been asked to present a candidate within the next 48 hours, as agreed by the whole house" - Fetuga narrated.
He added that the Otuboyejo family had been officially notified to produce their candidate within the stipulated timeframe. Failure to do so would result in the opportunity passing to the next eligible family.
“Let me assure everyone that we will follow the guidelines of the rotational order this time around to produce the next candidate for the vacant post of Jaginrin,” the Olori Ebi emphasized.
Also speaking, the family head of the Otuboyejo family, Mr. Abdul-Lateef Alude, confirmed their readiness to present a candidate within the given timeframe.
“I can assure you that our family will produce the next candidate as directed by the Olori Ebi. There will be no dispute, as our family remains united and coordinated,” he said.
The Jaginrin is a highly revered chieftaincy position in Ijebu-Ode, whose holder plays a central role in one of the most sacred traditions of the Ijebu Kingdom for the coronation of a new Awujale. Traditionally known as the Jaginrin of Ijebu-Ode, the title holds great historical significance as the entire coronation process begins and concludes with the Oloja Ejinrin chieftaincy family.
