In Ijebuland, the Palace is more than a seat of traditional authority—it is a symbol of history, unity, identity and the enduring values that bind generations together. On Tuesday, 30th June 2026, these values came to the fore as the Ogun State Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, led a distinguished delegation of party leaders and candidates on a courtesy visit to the Ijebu Traditional Council at the revered Awujale's Palace and the iconic Ojude Oba Pavilion in Ijebu Ode.

Waiting to receive the delegation was the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District, Alhaji Oluwafemi Omotayo (Omoowo), whose warm reception reflected not only political solidarity but also a shared appreciation of the enduring relevance of traditional institutions in shaping peaceful, progressive and prosperous communities.

The visit attracted senior party officials, stakeholders and supporters from across Ogun East, transforming the Palace environment into a meeting point where politics respectfully embraced culture, tradition and community leadership.

The delegation included House of Representatives candidates Hon. Wale Ogunbanjo and Asiwaju Bolarinwa Oluwole (ABO), House of Assembly candidates representing Ijebu Ode, Ijebu North East, Ijebu North and Odogbolu State Constituencies, members of the Ogun State PDP State Working Committee under the leadership of Deputy State Chairman Chief Abiodun Ogunremi, party elders, women leaders, youth representatives and numerous grassroots stakeholders.

Addressing those present, Omoowo described the visit as a practical demonstration of the PDP's unwavering respect for the traditional institution and its recognition of the indispensable role traditional rulers continue to play in promoting peace, preserving cultural heritage and fostering sustainable community development.

According to him, governance becomes more meaningful when political leaders maintain close collaboration with custodians of culture and tradition, whose wisdom, experience and moral authority remain invaluable in strengthening social harmony and grassroots development.

He reaffirmed the PDP's commitment to inclusive governance, peaceful coexistence, people-centred leadership, cultural preservation and sustainable socio-economic transformation across Ogun East Senatorial District and Ogun State.

A Message Beyond Politics
Beyond political symbolism, the visit conveyed a broader message about responsible leadership. It highlighted the importance of engaging respected traditional institutions as strategic partners in governance, community mobilisation and conflict resolution.

Political observers noted that such engagements help bridge the gap between elected officials and the grassroots, reinforcing confidence that governance should remain people-oriented, consultative and culturally sensitive.

Voices from the Community
Residents and observers who witnessed the visit commended the delegation for recognising the importance of the traditional institution.

One respected elder remarked:
"Leadership becomes stronger when political leaders honour the values and traditions of the people. Respect for the palace is respect for the entire community."

A market leader added:
"This visit demonstrates humility and maturity. Development succeeds when the government works hand in hand with our traditional institutions."

A young supporter also described the atmosphere as peaceful and inspiring, saying the gathering reflected unity and renewed hope for greater collaboration between political leaders and community stakeholders.

The Significance
The Awujale's Palace has, for generations, remained a beacon of stability, cultural pride and moral leadership in Ijebuland. Courtesy visits of this nature reinforce the long-standing relationship between democratic institutions and traditional authority, reminding political actors that sustainable development is best achieved through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect.

As preparations gradually intensify ahead of future electoral activities, the visit by Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, welcomed by Alhaji Oluwafemi Omotayo (Omoowo), may well be remembered as a significant moment that underscored the values of respect, unity, peaceful engagement and responsible leadership.

For many present, it was not merely another political outing. It was a symbolic affirmation that the path to enduring development begins with respect for the people, their culture, their institutions and their shared aspirations.
