A DAY CHAIRMAN EMERGES IN IJEBU NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT
In commemoration of year 2025 children day celebration, Ijebu North Local Government Executive Chairman Mr. Bolaji Odusanya organized quiz and debate competitions (Maiden edition) for primary school students.
20 schools were selected by the Local Governments Education Authority (LGEA) to participate. The first two days of the competitions produced five pupils for the final stage today, 21st May,2025. at the local government secretariat.
The students were given a topic to speak on or against. They showed exceptional performance in the presence of everyone.
The panel of judges cited some of the errors made while speaking on the topic, and corrections were made accordingly.
They were graded based on their performances, and at the end, Miss Nosirat OSINOWO; a student of OMO EDUMARE MODEL SCHOOL. AGO-IWOYE emerged as the 1st while Adenusi Nosibat from Igan moslem sch Ago -Iwoye came 2nd position, Oke Chika Imere moslem sch Ago - Iwoye came 3rd, Lawal fisayo of Lagan methodist sch Ago -Iwoye came 4th and Hassan Samuel from St Paul Anglican primary school Ago-Iwoye clinched the 5th position respectively.
Mr.ODUSANYA, who was full of joy while watching the students performed at the event. He praised the committee of the program, the teachers who devoted their time and energy for the children, the students who participated in the program from beginning to the end, the honourable councilors present at the event, the secretary to the local government, the local government education authority board members, education secretary of the local government, political appointees present and the entire staff of the local government for their cooperation. Our education needs to be a top notch by correcting the notion in the minds of some of our youth that "education is not a scam." Says ODUSANYA.
We need to engage our pupils in these type of activities by bringing them together to showcase what they have been taught in their various schools.
According to the Chairman, the education sector should not only be left alone in the hand of the government, teachers, parents should also step up their game to make sure that we have a perfect education system in our economy.
He appealed to the teachers to dedicate more of their time to their students by not minding the economy situation of the country
The Chairman disclosed the amount of money won by each contestant when the cash price will be given to them on children day celebration that will be help at Abusi edumare complex. The 1st position will go home with one hundred and fifty thousand naira, 2nd position will have one hundred thousand naira, third position will get seventy five thousand naira, 4th position fifty thousand naira while the 5th position will have thirty thousand naira.
A secondary school scholarships for the five contestants were also given to them by the Chairman. Each of the contestants also go home with a writing material made by the local government chairman. He also assured them that many private individuals have notified him of their interest in supporting the children with cash prize
Speaking earlier at the event, the Zonal Education Officer, Mrs Ola EGBINOLA, Witnessing a fantastic education program like this by the government is a good development which shows we have a responsible local government chairman to relied on. She appreciated the Chairman and the executive.
"I equally appreciated the teachers because it's not easy to prepare students for a program like this. She implored the students to have more confidence when speaking on any occasion and also prepared for the future by studying hard. She advised the teachers to impact more skills when it comes to speech for the students' says." Mrs Egbinola.
Meanwhile, Education Secretary of the local government; Mr.ADENAYA Olugbenga and the Supervisor for Education,Information and Sports; Barr. Samuel OGUNAIKE, the duo, eulogized the Chairman for initiating such a program to bring together the children to showcase their educational talent. Educational activities should be paramount to the government rather than spending on what will not promote the development of society.
You stand a chance of becoming a better person in the future when you have quality education. People will always respect and honor you. They urged the students to be determined in their academic career.
