Ogun State PCRC Week: A Celebration of Community Policing by Ijebuland Unit
The Nigerian Police Force, Ogun State Command, in collaboration with Ogun State PCRC via Ijebu Ode Area PCRC Unit, recently celebrated the Ogun State PCRC Week, tagged Obanta 2025, with a Seminar aimed at examining issues concerning "Community Policing in Nigeria viz Socio-economic context.
The Event, held at the Dr. Jack Ubom Lecturing Hall, Luba College, Ijebu-Ode, on August 4, 2025, drew notable individuals, prominent Ijebu sons and daughters along other non-indigenes, that are highly placed across different professional career, social life endeavours, etc present at the venue that was filled to capacity with visibly overflow.
The programme was facilitated by Otunba Fatai Agbolade Fatty Tomos Prints, who is presently the P.A to the National Chairman on Community Policing, South West Nigeria along with the Ijebu Committee plus other supporting well wishers from said Ijebu Local Government's axis.
Key takeaways highlights from the Event that is continuation of Ogun State PCRC Week planned program was the highly captivating lecture, ably supported by contributions from other special Security Agency's head, that gathered and subsequent questions and answers from attendees present that added more insightful flavours to the Seminar.
Special Guest of the day includes the Kabiyesi of Iperin, Oba Odulana Samsudeen Akeso, Agbolade 1, The Oluperin of Iperin ably represented in person of High Chief Oyemade Adesina and also supported by Ijebu Ode Area Commander, ACP Wasiu, plus other Security Agency Officers.
The Seminar's facilitator is the person of Dr. Jack Ubom, who is an expert in diverse security consultancy operations, that eventually gave his very best, delivering a captivating lecture on the theme for the day tagged "Community Policing in Nigeria socio-economic context, challenges and prospects in Ogun State"
With said security expertise insightful knowledge of the theme, Dr. Jack Ubom delivered a lecture on general security laying emphasis on individuals along with corporate plus societal security literacy for all , highlighting its significance, challenges and related situations in any given Communities.
Dr Ubom clarifies that security ratings evidently submission in our society is actually the result of the whole society immoral behaviour. He equally clarifies that all Security Agency's personnel are from the society they are operating from. Hence it isn't the personnel at each Agency that are immoral but said society that brought them forth.
He equally highlighted that criminal are attracted to where property and valuables are available hence it is the big personality and their business organisation cum activities that are prone to the criminal menace. This is more pronounced when the personality behind each organisation and their associate do chooses to flaunt their wealth and status. Flaunting your status and wealth are natural means of attracting criminal minds.
He subsequently challenged all net-worthy individuals in the society to support PCRC in their quest of keeping the Community safe and secured by donating to their cause. That support according to Dr Ubom includes financial plus morale boosting to our security agencies. Equally giving prompt security information accordingly would aid needful Agency to do needful security work expected of them
Lastly he emphasis that changing moral and character narrative from each home and family is actually the game changer for secured home, society, etc. According to Dr Ubom and others which was equally aptly supported by Prof Obatunde Bright Adetola, upholding good virtues actually start from home front hence positive character, attitude would surely influences positive lifestyle and thus will curb immorality, bad behaviours and criminality tendencies in anyone.
With that positive character development inculcated into each child from home by parent and equally found in said parents, our society would be safer for everyone, he submitted.
Area Commander's Advice: ACP Yusuf Wasiu, Area Commander Ijebu-Ode, shared valuable insights on Community policing, while complimenting Dr Jack Ubom on many challenges facing security agencies in discharging their responsibilities because of some unwholesome attitude of the general society.
He emphasizes that discipline is the bedrock of character and with right attitude, people would make their Community and society better. Citing different samples and bringing up the memory of WAI with the narrative that most Nigerians lived an honourable discipline lifestyle because of rules obeyed then, that gave our society a decent accolades globally.
The representative of Nigeria Army, OD Mshelia who gave applauded remarks by bringing many other dimensions to the discussion of security and Community interrelationship among indigenes in given society
Notable Attendees: The Event was attended by prominent individuals, including: Ijebu Ode Chairman, Hon Dare Alebiosu ably represented by his Vice Chairman, Mr. Adeyemi Titilayo, Barrister Ogunbanjo Ololade , Prof Obatunde Bright Adetola too as special Guest lecturer even though he doubled as moderator for the Event, Commanding Officer, Nigerian Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), Representative of Nigeria Army Commanding Officer, Ilese Barrack, Ijebu Ode, Representative of Ogun State Trace Commander , Ijebu Ode Unit, Representative of Federal Road Safety Corp, Commander (FRSC), Officer, Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO)
