REPEATED GAS EXPLOSION IN IJEBU LAND: IJEBU CONGRESS IS HIGHLY CONCERNED

Association of Ijebu Sons & Daughters (aka Ijebu Congress)

16th May, 2026

PRESS RELEASE

We, at the Ijebu Congress, has been following the unusual and unacceptable trend of repeated toxic gas emissions across Ijebu land in the very recent past.

We recall, with deep sense of disappointment, that the sad and health damaging occurrence of Our Lady of Apostle Girls High School, Ijebu Ode was barely yet to be abated, especially in the face of the fact that no visible action or actions has been taken by our Local and State governments to date.

Just like a _de-javu_, another sinister and very disturbing recurrence occured yesterday, Friday, 15th May at Ijebu Ode and Ijebu Imuá¹£in respectively.

Eye witness accounts reported the very sad events which nearly claimed the precious lives of our children and people in the affected environments of Anglican Girls Grammar School and Hope Immaculate High School both in Ijebu Ode and St. Anthony's Grammar School at Ijebu Imuá¹£in, a distance of about 10 km to Ijebu Ode.

A parent of Hope Immaculate High School, Ijebu Ode cried out in pains as his daughter was in coma for over 4 hours before her resuscitation at a cost nearly N170,000.

Questions are being raised in the following directions

* What were the findings, of our governments, from the investigation(s) of Our Lady's incident?

* Has the Ogun State government released any report - preliminary or final, - or is the investigation ongoing after over 2 months? Lastly

* Has methane been officially confirmed as the emitting gas, and why is it dispersing across schools in our land?

We are not just thoroughly concerned, we are deeply disturbed granted the fact that if the first incident has been used as a case study, the multiple repetitions must have been addressed and curtailed.

Needless to sound that we cherish the lives of our children being our tomorrow, we strongly felt that the best any government can give us is the security of our tomorrow in the practical sense of the expression.

With more than our children hospitalized as a result of these ugly incidents; we are, therefore, calling on both the Ijebu Ode, Ogun East Local and Ogun State governments to be more proactive with the total security of our children across the State by digging deep into the source or sources of these ugly emissions and other related security threatening issues with a view to curbing their recurrence.
