Ijebu Anglican Diocese Pays Courtesy Visit to Awujale Palace Ahead of Golden Jubilee Celebration
The Bishop of the Ijebu Anglican Diocese, accompanied by senior clergy, church officials, and members of the Diocesan delegation, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Awujale Palace, Ijebu-Ode, as part of activities marking the Diocese's 50th Anniversary (Golden Jubilee) celebration. The visit underscored the enduring cordial relationship between the Anglican Church and the revered traditional institution of Ijebuland. It provided an opportunity for the Diocese to formally identify with the Palace, pay homage to the royal institution, receive royal blessings, and reaffirm its unwavering commitment to promoting spiritual development, peace, unity, moral values, education, community development, and humanitarian service across Ijebuland and beyond.
The Golden Jubilee celebration commemorates five decades of God's faithfulness to the Diocese, highlighting its remarkable contributions to evangelism, education, healthcare, youth development, leadership development, and humanitarian services since its establishment. The anniversary serves not only as a celebration of the Diocese's rich history and remarkable achievements but also as a reflection on its enduring mission of spreading the Gospel, nurturing faith, developing responsible citizens, and positively impacting lives through numerous spiritual, social, educational, and developmental initiatives.
During the courtesy visit, the Bishop and members of the Diocesan delegation expressed profound appreciation for the warm reception accorded them at the Palace and acknowledged the significant role of the traditional institution in fostering peace, unity, cultural preservation, and sustainable development throughout Ijebuland. The visit further strengthened the long-standing partnership between the Anglican Church and the Palace in advancing the overall well-being and socio-economic development of the people.
Speaking with our correspondent after receiving the delegation, the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council (ITAC), Olorogun Dr. Sunny Kuku, described the visit as a welcome development that received the support and approval of all members of the Council, including those who were unavoidably absent.
Dr. Kuku explained that the Interregnum Administrative Council exists to serve all sons and daughters of Ijebuland irrespective of their faith, religious affiliation, denomination, or cultural background. According to him, the Council remains committed to promoting unity, inclusiveness, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect among all religious groups, stressing that the Palace has continued to maintain cordial relationships with Muslims, Christians, and traditional worshippers alike.
According to him, "We have related with the Muslim community and the traditional worshippers, and when the Christian community came calling, it became our responsibility to receive them warmly, grant them audience, and lend our support to their noble cause. We believe in encouraging every initiative that will enhance and complement the development of our community and our people. That is the essence of today's courtesy visit by the Ijebu Anglican Diocese as they prepare to celebrate their 50th Anniversary."
The ITAC Chairman further commended the Diocese for its immense contributions over the past five decades in the areas of evangelism, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, moral development, humanitarian service, and community development, expressing confidence that the Golden Jubilee celebration would further strengthen the enduring partnership between the Anglican Church, the traditional institution, and the people of Ijebuland.
